Committee briefing

5 of 13 evidence records used by this briefing have changed or are no longer available. Regeneration will preserve this version in history.

1. Executive summary and decision snapshot

Request: $8,240 for a Gold Sponsorship and developer-onboarding activation at Web3Lagos 2026 in Lagos, including a Zcash booth, technical presentations, wallet and tooling demonstrations, one-to-one onboarding, a virtual developer sprint, and a mini build challenge. [1][4]

Proposed delivery team: “Zcash Developer Onboarding,” led by Drekal/Dre, with Blackadam as technical support and tutor; media and booth-support roles remain unassigned. [1]

Funding and milestones: The supplied application evidence confirms the total request but does not provide a detailed budget, payment schedule, milestone dates, or acceptance criteria. The applicant has proposed outcome targets in forum discussion, including 40+ educationally engaged developers, 15–20 practically activated developers, and 5–8 prototype submissions. [1][6]

Decision snapshot: The request is a relatively small, bounded in-person activation rather than a long-term physical-infrastructure commitment. Its strongest case is a stated pipeline from event exposure to practical developer work, supported by the lead’s reported prior developer workshop activity. Its central weakness is that the formal request, as supplied, lacks a granular budget and milestone structure, while meaningful developer activation metrics were added only after community questioning. [1][5][6][7]

Inference: Funding value would depend less on raw booth traffic or wallet downloads than on whether the proposed sprint and build challenge produce documented developer activity and usable prototypes.

2. Applicant and team track record

The listed project lead, Drekal, describes prior work in ecosystem growth, developer relations, onboarding events, and organizing an inaugural Zcash developer workshop. [1]

The strongest available evidence of relevant experience is a forum report from Dre describing a six-week Zcash developer workshop. The report states that participants received hands-on exposure to Zcash infrastructure, ecosystem builders, contribution pathways, and the Zechub Hackathon; it characterizes the workshop as validating a “Learn → Build → Contribute” approach. [4][7]

This is relevant because the present request similarly aims to move developers from initial learning to practical Zcash experimentation. However, the workshop report provides narrative claims rather than independently verifiable participant counts, prototype counts, repository contributions, or sustained post-program outcomes. [7]

The team plan includes Blackadam, identified as a former Web3Bridge tutor, security researcher, and prior supporting tutor for the Zcash developer workshop. Two material execution roles—media personnel and booth support—are still “to be assigned” from the community. [1]

A material identity clarification is needed: the application calls the organization “Zcash Developer Onboarding,” while the public registry identifies the applicant as “Zcash Onboarding”; the project lead is named Drekal in the application and Dre in forum discussion. The evidence supports a likely connection, but confirmation of the legal/payee entity and accountable individuals would reduce avoidable delivery ambiguity. [1][2][3][4]

3. Proposal scope, milestones, budget, technical approach, and dependencies

Planned activities include a dedicated Zcash booth, wallet and developer-tool demonstrations, test transactions, educational materials, developer onboarding, networking, a virtual two-day sprint with Web3Bridge students, and a mini build challenge. [4]

The applicant says the activation will target Web3Bridge’s zero-knowledge training cohort and alumni, who are described as developers with foundational cryptographic knowledge. The technical pathway is to use Zingolib/Z3 Stack starter repositories, local development environments, guided exercises, and prototype submissions such as transaction scripts or payment user experiences. [5][6]

The applicant’s clarified activation targets are:

  • Tier 1: 40+ developers attending the workshop sprint, joining Discord, and entering a developer registry.
  • Tier 2: 15–20 developers cloning starter repositories, configuring local environments, and completing coding exercises.
  • Tier 3: 5–8 functional prototypes submitted to the mini build challenge.
  • A stated minimum of 15 Tier-2 developers and five functional Tier-3 submissions. [6]

No grounded evidence found for a line-item budget, sponsor-benefit breakdown, event date, delivery timeline, grant-payment milestones, named venue contract, formal Web3Bridge partnership confirmation, or defined milestone-validation process beyond the applicant’s general agreement to grant terms. [1]

Dependencies include Web3Lagos attendance, access to the Web3Bridge cohort, recruitment of two unassigned support roles, availability of the proposed technical tooling, and follow-through by developers after the event. [1][5][6]

4. Community discussion, arguments, responses, and resolution

Strongest arguments for: Supportive discussion emphasized reaching an existing Web3 audience rather than building one from scratch, and the potential relevance of introducing financial privacy to active developers and builders. [4] The applicant also articulated a post-event pathway involving workshops, office hours, builder support, and ongoing community engagement rather than treating the booth as a standalone marketing activity. [4]

Strongest arguments against: A community reviewer identified two decision-relevant weaknesses: historical attendance figures could be mistaken for the 2026 event forecast, and proposed measures such as 500 booth engagements and 200 wallet downloads did not demonstrate meaningful developer activation. [5]

Applicant clarification: The applicant explained that 2,400+ attendees represented cumulative attendance across four prior events, while the 2026 target is 800 in-person attendees. The applicant also introduced a Web3Bridge ZK-cohort partnership and a staged activation model tied to workshop participation, technical setup, exercises, and prototypes. [5][6]

Resolved concern: The apparent attendance discrepancy was clarified as cumulative historical attendance versus a projected 800-person 2026 physical event. [5]

Remaining disagreement: The reviewer initially found that the proposal still lacked a defined activation metric. The applicant subsequently supplied tiered definitions and targets, but the evidence does not show that these metrics were incorporated into the formal application, translated into grant milestones, or paired with verification methods. [5][6]

5. Relevant precedents and documented outcomes

Women in DeFi Summit 2026 — approved, $4,960. This is the closest comparable because it funded a Nigerian Gold Sponsorship with a booth, presentation, panel, and content assets. Committee members cited the applicant’s established community activity and education capability, while also cautioning that projected booth interactions might be optimistic. The record shows approval and completion status, but no substantive post-event outcome evidence is supplied; completion status alone does not establish impact. [10]

Zcash Open Learning Lab Space — declined, $15,000. This Nigerian developer-education proposal is relevant as a contrast in scope and risk. It was rejected because committee members viewed the long-term physical-space commitment as high-risk, insufficiently prioritized, and inadequately supported by demonstrated community engagement. The present request is smaller and event-bounded, reducing the specific infrastructure risk that drove the rejection, but it still needs credible evidence that event activity can convert into sustained developer participation. [12]

6. Material risks and execution considerations

  • Impact-measurement risk: Booth interactions and wallet downloads are top-of-funnel measures; the more decision-relevant developer outcomes remain proposed targets rather than established milestones. [5][6]
  • Budget-control risk: Without a line-item budget, the committee cannot assess the relative cost of sponsorship, staffing, travel, content, prizes, or follow-up programming. [1]
  • Team-completeness risk: Two planned roles are unfilled, including booth support that is important to attendee conversion. [1]
  • Dependency risk: The developer pipeline depends on collaboration with Web3Bridge and use of its ZK cohort, but the supplied evidence does not include partnership confirmation or participant commitments. [5]
  • Attribution and privacy risk: The proposed tracking of scans, workshop attendance, Discord joins, registry entries, and challenge submissions needs a clear consent-based methodology and a definition of unique participants to avoid overstating activation. This is an inference from the proposed tracking approach. [5]

7. Material gaps and questions for the applicant

  • Provide a line-item $8,240 budget, identifying sponsorship cost, staffing, travel, content production, prizes, tooling, and contingency.
  • Convert the Tier 1–3 developer targets into dated grant milestones, with payment/acceptance conditions and evidence required for each. [6]
  • Define a unique “activated developer,” including whether the funding condition is attendance, completed exercises, a working environment, a prototype, or another threshold. [5][6]
  • Provide written confirmation from Web3Bridge covering the ZK-cohort collaboration, sprint format, expected participant pool, and access to relevant students or alumni. [5]
  • Identify the final media and booth-support personnel, responsibilities, compensation, and backup coverage. [1]
  • Specify what qualifies as a “functional” prototype, who evaluates it, whether code or demonstrations will be publicly available, and how duplicate or incomplete submissions will be handled. [6]

8. Neutral decision considerations

Committee members could weigh the following:

  • The request is modest relative to the declined $15,000 long-term learning-space proposal and is more consistent with a bounded, testable event activation. [12]
  • The intended developer funnel is more substantive than a conventional booth-only sponsorship because it includes practical exercises and prototype targets. [5][6]
  • The proposal’s case for value would be stronger if funding were tied primarily to verified Tier-2 and Tier-3 outcomes rather than booth contacts, downloads, or social reach. This is an inference. [5][6]
  • The applicant’s prior workshop narrative supports thematic capability, but the absence of quantified, independently documented workshop outcomes limits confidence in projected conversion. [7]
  • A decision could reasonably distinguish sponsorship exposure from developer activation: the former is directly tied to event participation, while the latter depends on post-event follow-through that remains to be operationalized. This is an inference. [4][6]

1. Executive summary and decision snapshot

The request is for $8,240 to fund a Gold Sponsorship and developer-onboarding presence at Web3Lagos 2026, organized around a Zcash booth, live wallet and tooling demonstrations, one-to-one developer engagement, educational materials, networking, content capture, and a post-event follow-up program including a virtual two-day developer sprint for Web3Bridge students. [1][4]

The applicant is listed as Zcash Developer Onboarding, with Drekal as project lead; Blackadam is named for technical support, while media and booth-support roles remain to be assigned. [1]

The main decision question is whether a relatively modest event investment has a credible path from conference exposure to measurable developer experimentation and ongoing Zcash contributions. The proposal’s strongest rationale is its explicit developer pipeline rather than pure brand visibility. Its central weakness is the absence of a published budget breakdown, milestone schedule, numeric targets, and evidence confirming event terms or follow-up commitments. [4]

Funding structure: $8,240 requested; the provided evidence does not specify payment tranches, acceptance criteria, or allocation by activity. [1]

2. Applicant and team track record

The proposal presents Drekal as a Zcash contributor focused on ecosystem growth, developer relations, onboarding events, and the inaugural Zcash developer workshop. Blackadam is described as a former Web3Bridge tutor, security researcher, and supporting tutor for that workshop. [1]

A workshop retrospective posted by “Dre” describes a six-week program covering hands-on development, ecosystem infrastructure, open-source contribution pathways, and hackathon participation. It claims participants moved from no or theoretical knowledge toward practical development, and identifies lessons about curriculum design and early building. [5]

Evidence limitation: the current application names the lead as “Drekal,” whereas the workshop evidence is authored by “Dre.” It is reasonable to infer they may be the same person, but the supplied evidence does not establish this explicitly. Therefore, the workshop is suggestive rather than conclusive evidence of the named lead’s delivery record.

The applicant has also posted recurring analytics for a Zcash engagement initiative, reporting 231 engagement actions from 36 registered users in May and 338 actions from 40 registered users in June. These reports show reporting activity and community-operation experience, but they do not demonstrate developer onboarding, integrations, or durable adoption outcomes. [6][7]

3. Proposal scope, milestones, budget, technical approach, and dependencies

Scope

  • Gold Sponsorship at Web3Lagos 2026, with a dedicated Zcash booth. [1][4]
  • Wallet setup and test transactions; live demonstrations of wallets and developer tooling; developer-focused conversations and educational-resource distribution. [4]
  • A virtual two-day developer sprint for Web3Bridge students and post-event workshops, office hours, and builder support. [4]
  • Event media and short-form social content, with an intended media role not yet assigned. [1]

Technical approach: The stated approach is experiential onboarding: introduce privacy concepts, demonstrate ZEC payment and wallet flows, help interested developers explore tooling, and channel participants into continued learning and building. [4]

Milestones and budget: No grounded evidence found for dated milestones, milestone payments, detailed budget categories, quantitative targets, or measurable thresholds for successful completion.

Dependencies: Delivery depends on the conference sponsorship and booth access, availability of a still-unassigned media contributor and booth-support contributor, participation by Web3Bridge students in the virtual sprint, and functioning post-event follow-up. [1][4]

4. Community discussion, arguments, responses, and resolution

Strongest argument for: The proposal targets people already active in Web3 rather than a general audience, and frames the event as an entry point into continued developer education and potential Zcash integrations. A community commenter endorsed this positioning as an effective way to reach relevant builders. [4]

Strongest argument against: The expected impact remains largely aspirational. The proposal names possible measures—developers onboarded, wallet creations, workshop participation, prototypes, and contributors—but provides no targets, baseline, verification method, or funded follow-up plan. [4]

Applicant clarification: The forum post clarifies that the event is not intended as a standalone sponsorship: attendees would be invited into workshops, office hours, builder support, and community engagement after the conference. [4]

Resolution: This clarification resolves the concern that the proposal is solely a passive branding exercise. It does not resolve whether the follow-up pipeline has adequate staffing, partner commitment, targets, or budget.

Remaining disagreement: There is no substantive critical community feedback or documented applicant response on cost, execution capacity, or measurement. The limited discussion does not establish community consensus. [4]

5. Relevant precedents and documented outcomes

Women in DeFi Summit 2026 — approved, $4,960. This is the closest precedent: a Nigeria-based Gold Sponsorship involving a booth, presentation, panel, and content assets for an event expected to draw about 2,000 attendees. The committee cited the applicant’s established community activity and demonstrated education/presentation capability, while explicitly noting that projected booth interactions might be optimistic and that an event summary would be important. The record shows approval and grant completion, but supplies no documented impact metrics or post-event results. [8]

Zcash Open Learning Lab Space — declined, $15,000. This Nigerian developer-education proposal was rejected because committee members viewed the longer-term physical-space commitment as high risk, insufficiently aligned with priorities, and inadequately supported by prior community engagement or demonstrated activity. The current request is more limited and event-based, avoiding a long-term facility commitment; however, the precedent reinforces the importance of demonstrated delivery capacity and disciplined scope. [10]

6. Material risks and execution considerations

  • Value-for-money risk: Without itemized costs, evaluators cannot determine whether the sponsorship, staffing, media, sprint, and follow-up activities are proportionately funded. [1][4]
  • Conversion risk: Conference interactions and wallet setups may not translate into sustained builders, prototypes, or contributors. The proposal identifies this challenge but offers no numeric conversion targets or retention plan. [4]
  • Delivery-capacity risk: Two team positions are unfilled, including media and booth support; their selection criteria are broad rather than role-specific delivery commitments. [1]
  • Measurement risk: A post-event report is promised, but its required metrics, evidence standards, and timing are not specified. [4]
  • Inference: The request is lower-risk than a permanent physical education space because it is a bounded event and follow-up program, but its impact case depends heavily on execution after the event rather than the sponsorship itself. [4][10]

7. Material gaps and questions for the applicant

  1. Provide an itemized $8,240 budget, separating sponsorship, travel, booth materials, staffing, media, developer sprint, and contingency costs.
  2. Specify milestone dates, payment-linked deliverables, and who will validate each deliverable.
  3. Confirm the conference package: event dates, sponsorship benefits, booth specifications, presentation or workshop slots, and any signed organizer commitment.
  4. State numeric targets for qualified developer leads, completed onboarding interactions, sprint participants, workshop attendance, prototype attempts, and participants retained after 30/60/90 days.
  5. Define how wallet setups, test transactions, developer participation, and follow-up outcomes will be measured while respecting participant privacy.
  6. Identify the named people or selection timetable for the two unfilled roles, and explain how delivery proceeds if recruitment fails.
  7. Clarify the relationship, if any, between Drekal and the “Dre” credited with the prior developer-workshop retrospective, and provide verifiable outputs from that workshop. [1][4][5]

8. Neutral decision considerations

Committee members may weigh:

  • The strategic value of reaching an existing African developer community and establishing a structured path from event contact to hands-on Zcash building. [4]
  • The limited funding request relative to the scope, alongside the inability to assess cost efficiency without a budget breakdown. [1]
  • The presence of a plausible educational model informed by a claimed earlier workshop, balanced against incomplete confirmation that this is the same project lead and lack of independently documented workshop outcomes. [1][5]
  • Whether funding conditions should prioritize verified sponsorship terms, pre-defined conversion targets, staffed follow-up capacity, and a public outcome report with evidence beyond attendance or social-media activity. [4]
  • The relevant precedent: ZCG has supported a comparable Nigerian Gold Sponsorship when the organizer had an established educational/community record, while remaining cautious about optimistic interaction estimates and seeking event learnings. [8]

1. Executive summary and decision snapshot

Zcash Onboarding requests $8,140 for a Gold Sponsorship and developer-onboarding presence at Web3Lagos 2026 in Nigeria. The stated aim is to introduce Zcash privacy technology and tooling to developers, founders, and builders, then route interested participants into follow-up workshops, office hours, and a planned developer sprint. [1][4]

The named project lead is Drekal, responsible for event representation, technical presentations, workshop/build-challenge coordination, partner engagement, execution, and a post-event report. Supporting roles include Blackadam for technical support and tutoring; media and booth-support roles remain unassigned. [1]

The central decision issue is whether the proposed conference engagement has sufficiently concrete, measurable conversion pathways to justify $8,140. The application describes activities and intended metrics, but supplied evidence does not provide a milestone-payment schedule, itemized budget, attendance targets specific to this activation, or independently documented outcomes from the prior workshop. [1][4][5]

2. Applicant and team track record

The application describes Drekal as a Zcash contributor focused on ecosystem growth, developer relations, and community onboarding, and states that he organized the inaugural Zcash developer workshop. [1]

A forum author identified as “Dre” reported completion of a six-week developer workshop and described its curriculum, builder sessions, contribution pathways, and lessons learned. The report claims participants moved from theoretical knowledge to hands-on development and participation in the Zechub Hackathon. [4][5]

The same author has also published monthly reports for a Zcash engagement-bot initiative. These reports claimed 231 engagement actions and 36 registered leaderboard users in May, followed by 338 actions and 40 registered users in June. [6][7]

Evidence limitation: The supplied evidence does not establish that “Drekal” in the application and “Dre” in the forum reports are the same person. It also does not independently verify workshop participation, participant outputs, or the reported engagement metrics. These records support relevant activity but provide limited independently validated evidence of delivery outcomes. [1][5][6][7]

3. Proposal scope, milestones, budget, technical approach, and dependencies

The proposed scope includes a dedicated Zcash booth, live wallet and developer-tool demonstrations, wallet setup and test transactions, one-on-one developer onboarding, educational-resource distribution, founder and partner networking, and collection of interest for follow-up programs. It also proposes a virtual two-day developer sprint for Web3Bridge students. [4]

The applicant frames the event as the start of a longer pipeline: conference contacts would be invited into technical workshops, office hours, builder support, community engagement, and potential open-source contribution or ZEC-integration work. [4]

The technical approach is educational and hands-on rather than software-delivery focused: explain shielded transactions and privacy-preserving payments, demonstrate wallets and tooling, and support prospective builders with follow-up programming. [4]

The request is for $8,140, but no itemized budget is supplied in the available evidence. No grounded evidence found for milestone definitions, milestone acceptance criteria, payment tranches, event dates, sponsorship entitlements, or a named commitment from Web3Bridge. [1][4]

Key dependencies include access to the conference and sponsorship package, effective staffing of currently unassigned media and booth roles, availability of follow-up support, and a workable method for tracking post-event developer conversion. [1][4]

4. Community discussion, arguments, responses, and resolution

Arguments supporting the request: The strongest substantive case is that Web3Lagos may concentrate technically engaged African Web3 participants, allowing Zcash to reach prospective developers and founders rather than a general audience. The applicant also proposes follow-up engagement rather than treating the booth as a one-off branding activity. [4]

A community respondent endorsed this audience-selection rationale, arguing that reaching people already active in Web3 could be an effective way to introduce Zcash and financial privacy. [4]

Arguments against or unresolved: The proposal’s value case depends on conversion from event interactions to continuing developer activity, but it specifies no numerical targets, measurement method, or funding conditions tied to that conversion. It also lacks an itemized budget and defined milestones. [1][4]

Applicant responses or clarifications: The supplied discussion contains the applicant’s original explanation of follow-up workshops, office hours, and reporting, but no subsequent clarification addressing budget, milestones, sponsorship terms, team assignments, or conversion targets. [4]

Resolution status: No substantive disagreement is documented in the supplied discussion. Supportive sentiment is present, but the material implementation questions remain unresolved. [4]

5. Relevant precedents and documented outcomes

Women in DeFi Summit 2026 — $4,960, approved. This is the closest supplied precedent because it involved a Gold sponsorship in Nigeria with a booth, presentation, panel participation, and content assets aimed at raising Zcash visibility and education at an in-person crypto event. Committee members cited the applicant’s established community activity and educational capability, while cautioning that projected booth interactions might be optimistic. [8]

The record lists this comparable as approved and complete, but it provides no documented attendance, onboarding, developer-conversion, or other impact results. Completion status alone is not evidence that the event achieved its intended outcomes. [8]

Zcash Open Learning Lab Space — $15,000, declined. This Nigerian developer-education proposal is relevant as a boundary case for in-person ecosystem growth. It was rejected because committee members considered its long-term physical commitment high risk, locally limited, insufficiently demonstrated by prior community activity, and not a priority relative to available resources. [10]

Inference: The current request is smaller and more time-bounded than the declined lab proposal, which may reduce fixed-commitment risk. However, it still needs credible evidence that event activity can become durable developer engagement rather than isolated local outreach. [4][10]

6. Material risks and execution considerations

  • Outcome risk: Intended success measures include developers onboarded, wallets created, workshop participation, prototypes, teams continuing to build, and contributors entering Zcash. No baselines, targets, or definitions are provided, making value assessment difficult. [4]
  • Budget-control risk: The requested amount is known, but cost categories and sponsorship benefits are not supplied. [1]
  • Staffing risk: Two roles are explicitly “to be assigned,” including booth support and media production. [1]
  • Follow-through risk: The proposed long-term value relies on workshops, office hours, a developer sprint, and ongoing support after the event; their schedule, resourcing, and accountability are not evidenced. [4]
  • Capability-evidence risk: Prior workshop and engagement activity are self-reported in the available records, without independently documented participant outputs or retention results. [5][6][7]

7. Material gaps and questions for the applicant

  1. Provide an itemized $8,140 budget, including the Gold Sponsorship price, travel, staffing, booth materials, media, workshop/sprint costs, and contingency. [1]
  2. Provide the exact sponsorship deliverables and written confirmation of Web3Lagos/Web3Bridge access, including booth, presentation, workshop, branding, and attendee-engagement rights. [4]
  3. Define milestone-based deliverables and payment conditions, including what must be completed before and after the conference. No grounded evidence found in the application materials supplied. [1][4]
  4. Set measurable targets and definitions for developer conversations, wallet setups, verified follow-up enrollments, sprint participation, prototypes, and retained contributors. [4]
  5. Identify the people filling the unassigned media and booth-support roles, their responsibilities, and backup coverage. [1]
  6. Provide evidence from the six-week workshop: participant count, completion rate, project links or demonstrations, subsequent contribution activity, and lessons applied to this event design. [5]
  7. Explain how wallet setup and test transactions will be conducted safely, with appropriate participant consent and privacy-preserving data collection. [4]

8. Neutral decision considerations

The request is a relatively modest, event-based developer-outreach proposal with an articulated theory of change: reach technically relevant attendees, give practical exposure to Zcash, and cultivate follow-on builder activity. [1][4]

Factors supporting consideration include a focused audience rationale, a proposed hands-on educational format, and reported prior involvement in developer education and community engagement. [1][4][5][6]

Factors warranting funding conditions or further scrutiny include absent budget detail, absent milestones, unassigned personnel, unconfirmed sponsorship terms, and no grounded evidence of quantified prior developer-conversion outcomes. [1][4][5]

Inference: Committee confidence would materially improve if funding were tied to confirmed event access, a transparent budget, named staff, documented deliverables, and a post-event report measuring retained builder participation rather than only booth activity or wallet creation. [4]

1. Executive summary and decision snapshot

Request: Zcash Onboarding seeks $8,140 for “Zcash Onboarding @ Web3Lagos Conference 2026.” The application is under review. [1][2]

Applicant: The named applicant is Zcash Onboarding. The accompanying forum proposal is authored by a user identified as Dre_Nesthub, but the supplied evidence does not establish the legal or operational relationship between that individual and the applicant name. [1][5]

Decision snapshot:

  • The request appears to be a conference-based Zcash education/onboarding initiative in Lagos, Nigeria. [1][5]
  • The applicant presents prior community education activity, including meetup reports, a developer workshop, and a proposed developer sprint. [5][6][7][8][9]
  • Material decision evidence is incomplete: the supplied application extract does not provide a usable itemized budget, delivery timeline, milestone schedule, event confirmation, attendance targets, or measurable outcomes. No grounded evidence found for these details. [2]
  • Inference: The principal committee question is whether an event-focused request at this amount has sufficiently specific, verifiable deliverables and conversion measures to justify funding, given the applicant’s visible engagement but limited documented outcome evidence.

2. Applicant and team track record

The proposal is submitted by Zcash Onboarding, while the Web3Lagos forum post is attributed to Dre_Nesthub. The evidence does not identify other team members, roles, organizational status, or contracting responsibility. [1][5]

The strongest available capability indicators are the applicant-associated public activity:

  • A report describes a Zcash Ibadan meetup held on February 7, 2026, focused on privacy education, onboarding, and ecosystem-building in Nigeria. [8]
  • A separate report concerns a Zcash campus meetup at the University of Ibadan. [7]
  • A Zcash developer-workshop discussion contains a curriculum response and shows the author revised the curriculum after feedback concerning focus on zcashd. [9]
  • The Web3Lagos proposal states that the author previously hosted a six-week developer workshop and views it as having validated a curriculum. This is an applicant claim, not independently documented impact evidence in the supplied material. [5]

Outcome evidence limitation: The supplied excerpts establish that reports and educational initiatives were posted, but do not provide independently verifiable attendance, participant completion, wallet creation, developer-project, retention, or adoption results. No grounded evidence found for quantified prior outcomes. [5][7][8][9]

3. Proposal scope, milestones, budget, technical approach, and dependencies

The stated proposal title and request indicate a Zcash onboarding effort connected to the Web3Lagos Conference 2026, seeking $8,140. [1][2][5]

The supplied proposal summary characterizes the objective as continued developer onboarding following a prior workshop. [5]

Budget and milestones: No grounded evidence found for:

  • Itemized expense categories or supplier quotations;
  • Milestone definitions, dates, payment amounts, or acceptance criteria;
  • Whether funding would be paid before or after event delivery;
  • A delivery timeline or conference date;
  • Target attendee numbers, lead-conversion targets, or post-event follow-up plan. [2]

Technical approach: A related two-day “Zcash Developer Sprint” proposal aims to teach Zcash fundamentals and establish a developer environment, but the supplied evidence does not demonstrate that this sprint is part of the Web3Lagos request. [6]

Dependencies: No grounded evidence found for confirmed conference sponsorship, booth allocation, speaking slot, organizer agreement, venue access, or co-funding. [1][2][5]

4. Community and committee signals

The Web3Lagos forum topic was created on July 7, 2026. Its supplied metadata records two posts and zero replies. [5] A comment on the grant application links to that forum discussion but adds no substantive evaluation. [4]

Accordingly, No grounded evidence found for affirmative or negative community feedback on the proposal’s value, budget, scope, or feasibility. [4][5]

The application is marked as ready for ZCG review and under review; these statuses show process position, not committee support or evidence of expected impact. [1][2]

5. Relevant precedents and documented outcomes

Women in DeFi Summit 2026 — approved, $4,960. This is the closest comparable because it funded Zcash ecosystem onboarding at a Nigerian conference. The committee cited a gold sponsorship package, an event estimated at approximately 2,000 attendees, and the applicant’s established community activity and education capability as reasons for support. [12] The grant was recorded as completed after a $4,960 startup-funding payment, but the supplied evidence provides no outcome report demonstrating event results; completion status alone is not proof of impact. [11][14]

Mastering Zcash Video Series — approved, $23,500. This education precedent is relevant for its evaluation structure rather than event format: committee members cited existing useful work, a realistic budget, secured production equipment, and milestone payments after video releases. [24] The project remains open with scheduled milestones through December 2026, so no final outcome evidence is available. [25][26][28]

Zcash Open Learning Lab Space — declined, $15,000. This Nigeria-focused education/developer-onboarding proposal is relevant as a cautionary precedent. Committee discussion characterized the project as high risk and outside desired scope; it was ultimately rejected. [31][32] The current proposal is smaller and event-focused rather than a year-long physical space, but the precedent highlights the value of tightly bounded delivery commitments and clear evidence of feasibility.

6. Material risks and execution considerations

  • Scope and value measurement risk: The request lacks documented targets and acceptance criteria for meaningful onboarding. Without these, the committee cannot assess cost per attendee, cost per qualified lead, developer conversion, or sustained engagement. [2]
  • Budget-control risk: No itemized budget is available in the supplied evidence, preventing assessment of whether conference costs, travel, materials, staffing, or sponsorship components are proportionate to $8,140. [2]
  • Event-dependency risk: No confirmation of Web3Lagos participation, deliverables from organizers, or contingency if the event changes is supplied. [1][2][5]
  • Team-accountability ambiguity: The proposal applicant is “Zcash Onboarding,” while public posts are attributed to Dre_Nesthub. The responsible delivery entity and named accountable team are not established in the evidence. [1][5]
  • Inference: The applicant’s prior public education activity reduces the risk that this is an entirely untested initiative, but it does not yet establish capacity to deliver the specific conference scope or demonstrate measurable ecosystem value. [5][7][8][9]

7. Material gaps and questions for the applicant

  1. What precisely will ZCG fund: sponsorship level, booth, workshops, speaking slot, travel, materials, staffing, follow-up activities, or other costs? Provide an itemized $8,140 budget.
  2. What written confirmation exists from Web3Lagos regarding date, venue, audience profile, sponsorship benefits, booth space, presentation rights, and organizer obligations?
  3. Who are the accountable delivery leads behind “Zcash Onboarding,” what are their roles, and who will receive and administer grant funds?
  4. What are the measurable deliverables and success thresholds—for example, sessions delivered, verified attendees, workshop completions, wallet onboarding, developer-environment setups, and post-event engagement?
  5. What evidence supports the claimed success of the prior six-week workshop, including enrollment, completion, participant feedback, technical outputs, and later Zcash involvement? [5]
  6. What milestone structure would allow payments to be tied to verifiable commitments, event delivery, and a post-event report rather than solely to advance costs?
  7. How will the project distinguish meaningful Zcash onboarding from general event exposure, and what participant-data and privacy practices will be used?

8. Neutral decision considerations

Factors supporting consideration include a modest request relative to some recent education grants, a geographic focus aligned with a previously funded Nigerian conference initiative, and visible applicant-associated activity in Zcash meetups and developer education. [5][7][8][12][24]

Factors weighing on confidence are the absence of a grounded budget, milestones, confirmed event arrangements, accountable team structure, and quantified historical or projected outcomes. [1][2][5]

Inference: A committee could view the proposal as potentially suitable for a narrowly scoped, evidence-gated event grant if the applicant supplies the missing commercial, delivery, and measurement detail. Conversely, the current record does not enable a reliable judgment of value for money or post-event ecosystem benefit.

1. Executive summary of the request

Zcash Onboarding requests $8,140 for “Zcash Onboarding @ Web3Lagos Conference 2026,” currently marked under_review / Ready for ZCG Review with historical registry status “ZCG to discuss.”[1][3] The application was submitted on 7/7/2026 and is linked to a Forum topic titled “Bringing Zcash to Web3Lagos 2026.”[3][5] The Forum post frames the proposal as a continuation after a claimed successful six-week developer workshop and states an intent to continue onboarding developers.[5] Detailed budget line items, milestones, measurable deliverables, and outcome targets are not present in the supplied evidence.

Evidence coverage warning: Team history uses an exact normalized applicant-name fallback. Participant identities and aliases have not been reviewed.

2. Applicant and team track record, including prior grants and documented outcomes

The applicant name in the current records is Zcash Onboarding.[1][3] The Forum post connected to the application says the proposer previously hosted a “successful 6-week developer workshop” that was valuable to the Zcash community and validated a curriculum, but the supplied evidence does not include independent outcome metrics for that workshop.[5] Forum records under the visible author name Dre_Nesthub include topics on a two-day Zcash Developer Sprint, campus and Ibadan meetups, a Zcash Developers Workshop, and a Zcash Engage Server; identity linkage between that author and the applicant has not been reviewed.[6][7][8][9][10] Documented outcomes are limited: the meetup records are reports or topic summaries, and the developer workshop thread shows community discussion and curriculum adjustment, including a question about overemphasis on zcashd and a response that the curriculum was corrected.[7][8][9]

No grounded evidence found of prior grants awarded to the exact applicant name “Zcash Onboarding.”

3. Proposal scope, milestones, budget, technical approach, and dependencies

Scope: The title and Forum link indicate an event-based onboarding effort at Web3Lagos Conference 2026.[1][3][5] The Forum summary states the aim is to continue onboarding developers after a prior workshop.[5] Budget: the requested amount is $8,140.[1] Terms: the GitHub application record indicates the applicant checked agreement to the grant agreement, conflict disclosure, code of conduct, and KYC requirement if funded above $50,000.[2] Since this request is below $50,000, the supplied evidence does not show that KYC would be triggered by the stated threshold.[1][2]

Milestones, line-item budget, technical approach, deliverables, adoption targets, event dates, booth/sponsorship details, speaker commitments, and dependencies on Web3Lagos organizers are not available in the supplied evidence.

4. Community and committee signals from Forum and meeting evidence

The Forum topic was created 2026-07-07, had 63 views, 2 posts, 0 replies, and last activity on 2026-07-08 in the supplied snapshot.[5] The GitHub issue shows 1 comment, which only references the Forum link.[1][4] The registry row lists the grant status as “ZCG to discuss,” but no ZCG meeting minutes or committee rationale for this specific application are included.[3]

Inference: The available community signal is light because the Forum evidence shows no replies and the GitHub comment is administrative rather than substantive.[4][5]

5. Comparable grants: approved examples and documented results, plus declined examples and documented reasons

Approved comparable: “Zcash Ecosystem Onboarding At Women in DeFi Summit 2026” requested $4,960, was approved, and is marked grant complete with startup payment completed.[11][14][15] Meeting minutes say ZCG supported it as a gold sponsorship at Nigeria’s Women in DeFi Summit, with booth, presentation, panel, and content assets, and committee members cited the applicant’s community activity, ZecHub work, and capability to present and educate about Zcash.[12] Documented result in the supplied evidence is payment/disbursement and completed status; a completed status label is not proof of impact, and no event impact metrics are included.[14]

Approved comparable: “Mastering Zcash Video Series” requested $23,500 and was approved for 8 long-form videos and 3 podcast episodes expanding an existing Mastering Zcash resource.[23][24] Committee rationale cited enthusiastic community support, proven Zcash education work, realistic budget, and milestone payments after videos are released.[24] Documented result is that its grant status remains open with milestone estimates, including milestone 1 estimated 31 Jul 2026; no completed outcome evidence is supplied.[28]

Declined comparable: “Zcash Open Learning Lab Space” requested $15,000 for a Nigeria-based lab, co-working space, training events, livestreaming Zcash content, four monthly meetups, developer contests, and first-year setup/event costs.[29][30][31] It was rejected on 4/14/2025 after 19 days.[32] Documented reasons included committee concern that the project was high risk, had a good chance of not working out, and was not really in scope; earlier minutes also recorded resource-availability concerns.[30][31]

Declined comparable with limited reason evidence: “Zcash Web Gateway” requested $25,450 and was rejected on 2/16/2026 after 9 days.[41][43] The supplied decision evidence describes the proposal but the excerpt does not provide clear committee rejection reasons.[42]

6. Delivery, security, governance, legal, adoption, and sustainability considerations supported by evidence

Delivery: The current proposal’s delivery risk is difficult to assess because milestones, line items, date-specific event logistics, and post-event reporting commitments are absent.[1][3][5] Comparable approvals show ZCG has favored education/onboarding proposals where committee members saw proven work, community support, and concrete deliverables or event assets.[12][24]

Security: No grounded evidence found of software development, custody of user funds, wallet integration, or infrastructure deployment in the current proposal. The main security/privacy consideration appears educational: current and prior forum topics discuss privacy education, developer onboarding, and Zcash developer environments.[5][6][7][8]

Governance/legal: The application indicates assent to grant terms, conflict disclosure, and code of conduct, with KYC agreement only if above the stated $50,000 threshold.[2] No grounded evidence found of disclosed conflicts, local event permits, tax treatment, vendor contracts, or Web3Lagos sponsorship agreement.

Adoption: The proposal targets developer onboarding, and related forum posts describe developer-focused sprint/workshop activities and Nigeria-based privacy education meetups.[5][6][7][8][9] No grounded evidence found of expected attendee count, target number of onboarded wallets/developers, retention plan, or conversion metrics.

Sustainability: Related activity suggests repeated educational/community efforts, including meetups, a developer workshop, and a developer sprint topic.[6][7][8][9] No grounded evidence found of a post-grant funding model, maintainer plan, or long-term community ownership.

7. Contradictions, unresolved reconciliation issues, missing evidence, and questions for the team

Contradictions: No direct contradiction found in the current application status; GitHub and registry evidence both indicate review/discussion rather than approval.[1][3]

Missing evidence and questions:

  • Provide full budget breakdown for the $8,140 request.[1]
  • Provide milestones, payout schedule, and acceptance criteria.
  • Confirm Web3Lagos dates, sponsorship/booth terms, organizer agreement, and dependencies.
  • Define measurable targets: attendees reached, developers onboarded, wallets installed, follow-up cohorts, and post-event reporting.
  • Clarify team identities and relationship between “Zcash Onboarding” and the Forum author/activity cited in related records.[5][6][7][8][9][10]
  • Provide documented outcomes from the prior six-week developer workshop beyond the proposer’s claim.[5]
  • State whether any conflicts exist and how funds will be managed.[2]

8. Neutral decision considerations without issuing a funding decision

Considerations supporting further review: The request is smaller than several comparable education grants and aligns thematically with Zcash education/onboarding.[1][12][24] The proposer claims prior workshop experience, and related Forum activity shows repeated Nigeria-focused Zcash education/community topics.[5][7][8][9]

Considerations requiring diligence: The record lacks detailed milestones, budget, event commitments, targets, and outcome evidence.[1][3][5] Comparable declined evidence shows ZCG has viewed some Nigeria-based education/community infrastructure proposals as high-risk or out of scope when delivery risk was unclear.[30][31] A committee could request a revised plan with line-item budget, event proof, and measurable reporting before weighing fit, cost, and risk.

Zcash Onboarding @ Web3Lagos Conference 2026

Approved

Applicant proposes a Gold Sponsorship activation at Web3 Lagos (800+ attendees, hybrid, 2 physical days + 1 virtual), anchored by a Z3 Stack/Zingolib technical speaker session, a 2-day developer workshop with mini build challenge, a privacy panel, and an interactive developer booth — leveraging Web3Bridge’s established developer pipeline that has trained thousands of Nigerian/African developers. Requesting $8,140. Artkor: After our discussion and considering the points raised, I’m ready to support approving this proposal. Paul: I will support but I’m less interested in reaching the general crypto audience, web3 and others. I feel like we need to reach beyond that. So although I want this to proceed and I would like to see more of the similar approach of the ZecSy team and reaching those who are not going to be exposed to Zcash at all; those would be things that I would be much more interested in funding going forward. Zerodartz: Since they have been active in Zcash I’m ok to approve it although I think the impact might not be huge I still think we should experiment and see what outcomes they can get. Gguy: I agree, I see this as something that’s a bit more experimental. We haven’t funded this team or event before. I’m excited to see what impact this team can have.
